Custom Vehicle Search Is Back and Other Updates

Sep 17, 2026

I've been hard at work since I launched the new version of C8Tracker a week or so ago.  Things are coming along really well and I've been moving faster than I expected I would be able to.  At this point, I think the features from the old site that I planned to bring back are now available again.

First, I went through and re-created the old Vehicle Dashboards.  These are 90% complete and work much better than on the old site.  The data is cached, so the load time is typically less than 1 second.  If you happen to be the first visitor to them after the cache is cleared, they should only take a few seconds to load.  This is drastically improved over the old site.  There are some data points that I want to add to them, but that should be pretty easy.

Second, I re-created the old Custom Vehicle Search.  On the old site, this worked well enough, but it was a complete maintenance nightmare.  The database queries it generated were very complicated and could take a long time to run.  The new version is much improved in that it will be much easier for me to add new options to, and so far, the improved database queries are very fast.  Also, the whole tool is just "smarter" in that it will mostly prevent users from selecting model and option combinations that just don't exist.  I need to work on restricting the interior colors to the Preferred Equipment Groups (1LT, 2LZ, etc) that they are available with in order to prevent users from selecting impossible combinations there (which is very common with the old version of the search)... but that should be pretty simple.

Last, I received another email from someone who wanted to send some cash to help support the site.  So I quickly added the Support C8Tracker link to the navigation bar to give people who want to help out a way to do so.  This is obviously optional.  Some months the ad revenue covers all of the bills, other months it comes up short.  No big deal, but any support is appreciated!
